City of Joy….City of Palaces!!

A city which may not have alluring night lives but doesn’t fail to fascinate it’s visitors for sure, so be it Britishers or be it it’s own countrymen!!

Every lane every street has some story to offer which will leave you to awe. And being an urdent Kolkata lover I am all set on the journey to explore my own city!!

“Let us, therefore, have a building, stately, spacious, monumental and grand, to which every newcomer in Calcutta will turn, to which all the resident population, European and Native, will flock, where all classes will learn the lessons of history, and see revived before their eyes the marvels of the past.”

Well, George Curzon has been quite farsighted when he made the statement, for, even after 112years of its first stone being laid off, this marvellous beauty has never failed to leave any of its visitors awestruck….Special attraction of the monument has been the mysterious fairy which allures every Kolkatan across all generations!

Yes, it’s “THE VICTORIA MEMORIAL”, my first destination….The construction portraying the mixture of British and Mughal elements, stands proudly right at the heart of my city, giving us a flashback of Kolkata 100years ago. I felt goosebumps as I trolled through the galleries of the mansion and was recollecting every word of “Shei Somoy” by Sunil Gangopadhyay depicting Kolkata of that era!

However, as I closely encountered this mersmerising piece of architecture, the Angel of Victory which graces the atop of the central dome stole my heart away❤️❤️
